Solo installation of paintings, works on paper, woodcuts and ceramics
About
CANAL is delighted to present a solo installation of paintings, works on paper, woodcuts and ceramics by artist Miroslav Pomichal.
Pomichal will create a domestic interior of painted screens, a fantasy half-remembered Mittel European winter garden inspired by what he characterises as the 'quasi-spiritual drive' of Modernism and the 'flippant gaiety' of the 1990s.
Pomichal's practice mixes 'high' and 'low', parody and idealism, employing overt art historical reference, 'props' and folk motifs, as well as a variety of media, including digital, oil, watercolour and ceramics.
Pomichal completed his MFA at Wimbledon School of Art. Based in London, he makes much of his work in Slovakia, and is currently rebuilding a medieval house in Slovakia which will eventually be used as a centre for residencies for British artists.
