Living in Motion: Design and Architecture for Flexible Dwelling

About

Presented by the Six Cities Design Festival, Living in Motion looks at life on the move, from stacking chairs to wearable architecture, from yurts to laptop computers. While there has always been a distinction between nomads and settled peoples, all forms of nomadic existence have their settled moments, and vice versa.

Flexibility, mobility and multi-functionalism have always been catalysts for innovation. Today, rapidly changing living conditions and technical advances have made the concept of domestic flexibility all the more relevant. The exhibition displays a selection of solutions through centuries of design and across a variety of cultures, bringing together 140 objects, as well as films and illustrations from the realm of architecture, design and domestic life.

The exhibition has been organised by the Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein, Germany and is being shown as part of the Six Cities Design Festival, the country's first nationwide international design festival.
