About
About the Artist:
Lisa V Robinson’s paintings are underpinned by an interest in mark making, colour and form. Rather than reverting to pure abstraction as a method of visualising these interests, she has developed her own painting style which fuses both abstract and representational elements.
She looks to the environment for ideas for composition and mark making, which are as far ranging as: architecture, films, reflections, interiors and graffiti. These images are deconstructed and placed on the canvas as abstracted components. The reference material is used till a certain point, and then the remainder of the painting is finished intuitively.
The resulting paintings are playful in nature with bright geometric blocks of colour and spontaneous gestures. The paintings are often left untitled for the viewer to freely translate the relationship of the forms and gestures.
Lisa V Robinson (b.1986) is a contemporary painter, currently based in Westgate Studios, Wakefield, Northern England. She studied BA Fine Art Painting at Manchester School of Art, graduating with First-Class Honours in 2008. Since graduating from university, Lisa has proceeded to win the Joan Day Painting Bursary and was short-listed for the New Lights Art Prize.
About the Wakefield Artwalk:
The Artwalk is an established and growing alternative night out. It takes place every two months, always on the last Wednesday of the month, starting from January each year. It exists to showcase local, national and international talent in a whole range of settings.
Not only will you experience great Art, it's also your chance to see more of the city, discovering new venues and revisiting old favourites. You will get a unique opportunity to gain insight into practising artists based in Wakefield and beyond, whilst meeting new people in a relaxed enjoyable atmosphere.
Exhibition spaces range from the traditional art gallery space, through to historic buildings, cafes, bars, retail outlets and more.
There is no set route. With changing exhibitions and events, you can go where the wind takes you, visiting all or just a few venues.
