Artist Lisa Cheung was invited by A Foundation to develop an offsite project for the 2007 Southport Flower Show in August. Lisa worked with Seki Hirano from if [untitled] architects to design Summer Palace, a large outdoor sculpture. Various local community groups were invited to bring plants, flowers and vegetables, which were displayed within the sculpture for the duration of the show. These plants were contributions, and not submitted for competition but rather for the sheer pleasure of sharing their beauty and enjoyment.
The sculpture has been reconfigured and installed at Greenland Street and local community groups have been invited to contribute a pumpkin or autumnal vegetables and plants to the instillation.
On Saturday 27 October from 3pm there will be a discussion event looking at the historical relationship between artists and gardens.
