Lily Wong: I Will Wade Out & Donghoon Rhee: Woman

Various Small Fires Los Angeles is pleased to announce two new solo exhibitions. Lily Wong's I Will Wade Out opens in the main galleries; Donghoon Rhee's Woman will occupy the &Milk space. In conjunction, Szu-Han Ho's The suffering pond will play in the sound corridor as part of VSF's Sound Program.

Lily Wong (b. 1989, Seattle, Washington, lives and works in Brooklyn, New York) holds a BFA in printmaking from Rhode Island School of Design, Providence and an MFA from CUNY Hunter College, New York. She has held solo and two-person exhibitions at Galerie LJ, Paris France; Kapp Kapp Gallery, Philadelphia and Harper’s, New York. Selected group exhibitions include Lyles & King, New York; Jeffrey Deitch, Los Angeles and New York; Fredericks & Freiser, New York; Half Gallery, New York; Tong Art Advisory, New York; Ramp Gallery, London; Wunderwall, Antwerp, Belgium; HVW8 Gallery, Berlin, Germany and Greenpoint Terminal Gallery, Brooklyn.

Donghoon Rhee (b. 1991, Singapore, lives and works in Seoul, South Korea)’s sculptural practice blossomed from his earlier investigation on traditional still life paintings. Rhee combines both the hand painting and sculptural elements into his chiseled wooden still life sculptures. Rhee began investigating the dance moves of various K-Pop idols and captured their movement by chiseling through a raw chunk of wood. Rhee presented one and two person exhibitions at White Noise, Seoul; DrawingRoom, Seoul and Gallery SP, Seoul. The artist has been a part of group exhibitions held at Seoul Museum of Art; Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art; Ilmin Museum of Art, Seoul; Ulsan Art Museum; SAGA, Seoul; Hyundai Card Storage, Seoul; and Daelim Museum, Seoul. His work is in the permanent collections of Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art and Ulsan Art Museum.
