Wallis Eates is a London based comic artist with a community facing practice. She is showing works in progress from ‘Like an Orange’ and finished pieces from ‘Wings’, two of her collaborative projects with brain injury survivors and prisoners respectively.

About

In 2016 Wallis took the role of Artist-in-Residence at Headway, a charity that supports people with traumatic brain injuries.  The work from ‘Like an Orange’ documents her residency, incorporating the members' art into her depiction of their stories. This is the basis for Wallis's book-in-progress of the the same name.  To support this project, please go to www.unbound.com/books/like-an-orange.

Also represented is work from 'Wings', a project working with the inmates of Wandsworth prison on behalf of the charity Stretch. The men shared stories and experiences, creating short films exploring their backgrounds, their passions, their feelings about life in prison, and more.  The original plan was to share these films publicly.  Although the prison service eventually vetoed this, these images provide a fascinating glimpse of what might have been.
