Whether we observe light as a literal presence or seek it in a metaphysical form, it is the play of brightness versus shadow that uniquely informs our human vision. Capturing light in visual terms has always been a crucial element in representational painting. Contemporary image-makers, through multi-media, installation and concepts—as well as traditional methods—equally embrace ways to capture the essence of light in their work. Light is a sampling of the brilliance of both media and idea.
