DAY 1

Choosing a canvas is very important that allows your talents to shine as you paint. So here, at Candid, we will teach you to make your own canvases during the Summer School in the time honoured traditional way using the finest materials. Making your own canvases is really very simple, very quick and extremely cost effective – you’ll be surprised! We can supply the materials too. From the first brush stroke you’ll notice the difference and you’ll never look back! Canvases will be sold for £20.

Drawing – the real basics – essential elements to start to learn to draw properly. Nothing overlooked – a sound beginning giving you a solid start. You will be taught how to simplify what is in front of you to the essentials of structure and form to quickly obtain a block in which will be the foundation of your painting.

DAY 2

Raw basics of painting: palette colour choices, brush choices and the critical early stages of painting from life put into action in a straightforward fashion. A thorough talk on colour theory and paint mixing will help to guide you through the early stages of applying paint to your canvas. A small preparatory colour study is encourage to overcome any colour mixing/value issues and to ease transition into the final piece.

DAY 3

The unfolding of the process: a sequential, ordered method carefully explained and demonstrated to enable you to advance your painting. As you begin to develop your final painting you will receive guidance on capturing likeness, proportion and the essentials of working from life.

DAY 4

Continuing from day 3 and building upon those earlier foundations – steering you through the progression.

DAY 5

Drawing your painting together, consolidating the week’s study and building your confidence to leave you with an appreciation and working knowledge of painting in oils from life.
