Atmospheric Paintings and Printmaking from Scottish artist Lesley Birch
About
Landscape Paintings and Printmaking. With her signature loose, expressive mark-making, Lesley Birch conveys the passing of time in landscape paintings from her memory and imagination. Traces of a history beneath the surface show in the layers built up on canvas and paper, expressing the wind, earth, sea and sand. This is a varied solo show displaying over 40 artworks with the atmosphere of dark, moody Novembers to the bright, uplifting colours of Spring. What they have in common is the mark-making - scratches, lines, the sweep of the brush, painting knife or the drypoint ink line cutting the printing plate and impressed onto paper - the mark of the artist in a moment in time. The paintings and intaglio printmaking range from earlier and more recent collections including the artist's Edge of the World Printmaking Series, the recent Spring Series of Works on Paper and paintings on canvas inspired by Ireland and Scotland.
