Lecture David Sarkisyan and other Heroes of Russian Conservation

About

Language: In English Pushkin House is proud to present the second series on Russian architecture — EXPLORING RUSSIA'S ARCHITECTURE MAPS (Moscow Architecture Preservation Society) for Pushkin House 2009-2010 Lecture by Clem Cecil Lecture 1 | Chermayeff And Lubetkin: Avant-Garde Russian à‰migré Architects In The UK Lecture 2 | Samara: Heritage at Risk Lecture 3 | Russian Heroes of Conservation Lecture 4 | Title to be confirmed Lecture 5 | Drawing Moscow: Capturing the Street Life of a Changing City Lecture 6 | Chekhov Dacha's in Yalta: Its History and the Campaign to Save It One of the most outspoken and active campaigners for the preservation of Moscow's built heritage, David Sarkiysan, Director of the Moscow State Schusev Museum of Architecture, died on 7th January this year. He spearheaded and master-minded many campaigns in Moscow, including that for the Moskva Hotel, the Central House of the Artists and the El Lissitsky Printing House. A great tactician, he fought to preserve the integrity of the Melnikov House, and his death leaves it more uncertain than ever. The struggle to preserve Rusia's historic buildings is unequal and dangerous, fought between concerned citizens and big business against a backdrop of poverty and corruption. MAPS founder and friend of Sarkisyan, Clementine Cecil, tells the inspiring stories of those who battle to preserve Russia's heritage. There will be a chance to commemorate David's memory at a drink before/afterwards. PRE-BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL Pre-booked tickets are kept until 15 mins before the start of the event.
