About

“Lea Petříková (currently finishing her PhD degree at the FAMU) has long been dealing with the picture in motion in a broad context. The Festival of Invisible Film is a research-educational platform, a procedural project, the theme of which is the invisibility of circumstances in the creation and spreading of picture in motion. To start the discussion, Lea and Maro Hajrapetjan – a co-curator, will present the concept of film as a work of art, but also as an event or concept in the context of creators and reception within various scenes and audiences. By transferring the film event itself to the gallery space, Lea relativizes the very essence of film as an invisible medium, materialised only at the moment of projection. The film event is commonly perceived as essentially ephemeral, elusive, dependent on time and audience. When placed in a gallery space though, the event becomes a matter of walk and thus is easier to be reflected both from the inside and outside. However, Lea goes even further in her project for the Pragovka Gallery. She leans on the lost film Le Magicien by Alice Rahon. The film is about a nuclear catastrophe survivor, a wizard, who was given the task of creating a new world. The theme is post-apocalyptic, post-humanist, and feminist like, but that is not the only reason to form the project and its accompanying program in lectures, projections and discussions. The exhibition curators address to Alice Rahon, who was not adequately appreciated while she was alive, and they call on other curators and theorists to share common themes and interests, to build a community not to only relativize the gallery / cinema space, but to thematize the (in)visibility of the artists themselves, and to do so mainly through discussions, mental maps and other parts of the project.”
