About

Box Galleries is delighted to announce the new solo exhibition by Lauren Baker, the British contemporary multidisciplinary artist. Showcasing her new work created exclusively for this exhibition alongside her most celebrated light art, Electric takes the viewer on an ethereal and dynamic journey of life.

Exploring the fragility of life, energy-fields, the after-life and other dimensions. Lauren comments;

 “My love of nature, combined with science, takes me on an incredibly exciting exploration of space, light and energy as I continue my quest for life’s meaning.’’

Lauren’s neon sculptures are positively bursting with energy and life reflected in their aura’s depicted in diamond dust and digital ink painting. The mesmerizing colours of the Icelandic spectacle of the Aurora Borealis to the interpretation of the frequency of the moon, these striking works exude the abundant optimism and passion of the artist.

 ‘’When I started creating, I found meaning. Art is truly therapeutic. I’m so passionate about creating.  I found my thing. I love what I do. I genuinely believe the world will be a more harmonious place if we all tapped into our personal creativity. No matter what the medium – whether, art, music, dance, writing and so on.”

The exhibition will also include her famous positive mantras in neon ‘I love you to the moon and back’ and ‘You Blow My Mind’.Text-based neon signs have been current in modern art since the 1960s. However, whereas artists like Bruce Nauman used moulded letters and text appears in neutral capitals Lauren Baker uses her hand-script emphasizing her personal thoughts and commentary.

Gallery Director, Emma Moir, said;

“Following the huge success of Lauren's Solo Show Entwined, and the extraordinary new work she has created, Electric is a combination of Lauren's immersive neons as well as a powerful mixed media print series that are gaining worldwide recognition particularly in the UK and USA. Lauren's creativity, consistency and constant quest for meaning, whilst exploring and developing new techniques, is enormously exciting and highly collectable."

Lauren has amassed a significantly impressive tribe of collectors, museum directors, curators and fans; The Tate gave their seal of approval early on as ‘one to watch’ and subsequently commissioned an installation for Tate Britain.  The V&A followed suit which led to exciting international projects and commissions for public and private collectors. M & C Saatchi described her ‘as highly collectible’

Lauren’s future plans are to scale up the size of her sculptures and continue to push boundaries; “I’m inspired by Anish Kapoor and his extraordinary large-scale installations and would love to create in this scale.”
