This exhibition will focus on Laura Letinsky's (b. 1962, Canada) new series, Ill Form and Void Full (2010-11), and marks a radical development in her work since 2009. In this series Letinsky incorporates cut-outs of food, drink and other tabletop accoutrements into minimalist still life compositions. Collected from lifestyle magazines, art reproductions as well as the artist's own photographs, the cut-outs are laid flat, propped up, folded and positioned in relation to three dimensional objects within a precisely orchestrated and illuminated white background. Using a large-format camera to better capture intricate details including smudges and scotch tape, Letinsky then photographs the arrangements and prints them at life-size. The resulting images further play with our perception of illusion and reality.
