GALLERY 1 | Entanglements of Time & Tide
Sonia Mehra Chawla
An interdisciplinary visual arts and science project by Indian artist and researcher Sonia Mehra Chawla, that engages with the North Seas of Scotland.
This project is the result of a two-year period of research facilitated by Edinburgh Printmakers and supported by Marine Scotland, which informed intensive artist residencies at Edinburgh Printmakers, ASCUS Art & Science, and Marine Laboratory of the Scottish Government in Aberdeen in 2019.
Working at the interface between art, science and technology, exploring entanglements of ecology, industry, culture, politics and aesthetics, the body of work includes new prints commissioned by Edinburgh Printmakers, along with videos, living systems and archival historical scientific material.
The project is presented as part of Edinburgh Science Festival 2020.
GALLERY 2 | Speculative Bubbles
Jess Ramm
With the aid of a children’s chemistry set and a selection of household chemicals, Jessica Ramm presents a series of prints, that evidence everyday magic.
Ramm’s chemical and physical experiments propose alternative ways of navigating humanity’s symbiotic relationship with the material environment while paying particular attention to the extravagance of human aspiration.
The work in this exhibition has been developed over the period of two Edinburgh Printmakers’ residencies. Jess was the first artist to be awarded a residency in our Paisley studios as part of our EP Spaces project, which is a nationwide network of
spaces for creative people. Following this, Jess undertook a print studio residency at Castle Mills.
This exhibition coincides with the Edinburgh Science Festival.
