About

On the 26th of May 2011, Arcadia Missa is releasing the first issue of its periodical; How to Sleep Faster. To celebrate this the gallery will also play host to Your Body is a Temple V, an art collective presenting a set of semi-interactive software sculptures and performance, running from the 26th — 29th May 2011. There will be a late-night launch event and theYour Body is a Temple V performance on Friday the 27th May from 6pm — 10.30pm. Contributions From: Katrina Sluis, John Hill, Wojciech Kosma, Raphael Julliard, Alex Sprogis, Supralimen, Russell Hill, Asta Meldal Lynge, Jon Crook, Luke Hart, ARR Materials, Matty Mastrandrea and Rózsa Farkas. How to Sleep Faster is a formalisation and extension of the collaborative conversation and concurrent concepts that gave shape to the gallery's 2011 spring programming — Sleep Faster (February), and How to Carve Totem Poles (March). Compacting these free-floating often mutating and usually multi-podal dialogues into the pages of a publication could be seen as a retrospectively descriptive full stop or perhaps reification of what we have done so far, and seemingly an action starkly at odds with the collaborative working practice that we are engaged in. This is not simply the paranoia of collaborative navel gazing, but entirely pertinent in our contemporary culture of participation. Instead we have invited (and continue to do so) new participants to discuss and expand on ideas we set out with when opening the gallery. Rather than simply creating a space to have your thoughts heard, or what is often an arbitrary allusion to participation; the conversations, questions and ideas we collectively sought to pursue are allowed to take on a new course (one set apart from the course presented as exhibition), one that even in its mutation cannot forget or leave behind its own history. The first periodical, as with the first two shows at the gallery, looks at how can we understand the contradictions / complexities that define and form our experience, existence and participation in a contemporary digital-analogue environment. For the duration of publication launch and Your Body is a Temple V (26th — 29th May), How To Sleep Faster will be available at a discounted price.
