Landscape; Rural vs Urban: Through the display of drawings, paintings, photographs and mixed media artworks this exhibition will examine the response and adaptation from artists to the ever changing appreciation of seascapes, city views, monuments, landmarks and their surroundings. Eight artists coming from different parts of the world including Ukraine, Spain, Australia and the UK explore from landscapes unaffected by human activity to man-made contemporary cities. These works evoke the freedom in movement and change in natural landscapes and the dynamism and energy of the metropolis.
Mel Sewell Sigvaldi invites us to reflect on relevant environmental issues and through his colourful and contrasting works he confronts us with a resources crisis that is currently affecting several communities worldwide and gives us an unsettling and shocking idea of how the world could be if we do not act. With the series “Structure and Reflection", Becky Young uses montage art to compose a compressed narrative, making layers to create interesting pieces which show the reflections of buildings, and the strength of structure. Often these show the reflections of nature, or old buildings. Becky also looks at the story the building holds, or if there is a personal history with the building. She explores traces like signatures in architecture. Tony Whyte’s artworks are bright and dynamic works, which represent the constant change and certain chaos in nature. His works are not created in order, and do not follow a pattern. He explores the interaction of natural forces, which drag us into his works.
