The project responds to one of Reading’s most renowned historical sites, the Reading Abbey, and is delivered in partnership with The Reading Abbey Revealed project, designed to conserve and re-open the Abbey Ruins. Reading Abbey was one of Europe’s largest royal monasteries, with 900 years of fascinating history. As ‘global’ centres or hubs of their time, the medieval abbeys acted like contemporary international corporations but were also sacred spaces.
Lada Nakonechna is an artist, curator, educator and member of R.E.P. Revolutionary Experimental Space artists’ collective. Her work explores time and perception of space through drawing, public actions, film, installation and performance. In June she will lead two workhops on the Abbey site. In parallel to the residency we will be screening a series of video works exclusively on the Reading International website. The project will culminate in an new web publication which will be developed in collaboration with designer Lozana Rossenova.
The project has been supported by a grant from European Union within the framework of the Culture Bridges Programme.
