‘Nueve editoras’ is the third solo exhibition by Korean artist Kyungwoo Chun at JosédelaFuente, who employs performance and photographic work to address the ways in which mass culture phenomena lead towards the homogenisation of collective identities.
The series ‘Nine Editors’ is comprised of nine images, a selection which corresponds to the nine minutes of exposure during which each portrayed subject stayed in front of the camera. Through this action, for which the artist collaborated with nine fashion experts from Seoul, each work is turned into a baroque composition. For this project, Chun asked each journalist to send him their favourite piece of clothing, and then invited them to visit him in the studio one by one. Once there, they were asked to put on the selected clothes representing the collective taste, and to improvise their outfit so that they were dressed head to toe with this somewhat random aspect, excluding their own choice.
The show is completed with the work ‘Portrait Made by Hand’, an installation with performance that invites the public to contribute with a description of their own faces.
