About
Sophie Parkin paints in oil on canvas mostly Self Portraits where she ressurects forgotten women and melds herself within their images. Identifying with the lost and forgotten brilliant women who have been pushed into obscurity by history and usurped by men. Sophie's intention is to resurect these women back to their rightful place. From Madonnas to Nancy Cunard, Salome to Carson McCullers and Paula Modersohn Becker to the co founder of Liberty Sylvia Scaffardi nee Crowther Smith, to Pythia of Delphi, Helene Schjerfbeck and Suzanne Valadon and more. She has been painting since 1980 but took some time off to write and has published 9 books both novels and non fiction. The Colony Room Club - a history of bohemian Soho 1948-2008 was last published in 2013 and this year became an e-book.
She owns the Arts Club Vout-O-Reenees in East London.
