Cock 'n' Bull Gallery invites you to view 'Persephone, Queen of the Underworld' where Kirsten Glass's paintings take you on a journey into an imagined psychic space.
About
The show’s title, ‘Persephone, Queen of the Underworld’, characterizes the work’s imagined retreat into an underworld, a psychic space where the cyclical processes of withdrawal and fertility take place. Here, the process of transformation begins with the ‘Flowers of life’, a simple, infinitely repeatable pattern found in sacred geometry which gives rise to a multiplicity of atmospheric compositions in these paintings, transforming variously into Veil, Setting, Grid, Flow or Form. The pattern acts as a kind of code, an ancient, lo-fi screen made with a compass and charcoal, which hangs between the encounter with a ‘you’ and the unknowable realm beyond the code.
