Pantechnicon is shining a spotlight on the Japanese art of kintsugi 'golden repair' throughout October. Visit to see a shoppable display featuring the work of prominent kintsugi artists from Japan and the UK. There is also a series of workshops where you can learn this special craft for yourself.

About

A technique and philosophy that has been present in Japanese culture for over 400 years, it is said that when an object is repaired with kintsugi, the piece becomes more beautiful for the damage it experienced – after all, the kintsugi technique proudly shows the journey an object has been through. On display will be works incorporating ceramics, glass, and metal, and even kintsugi jewellery.

Master lacquer craftsman and kintsugi artist Nobuyasu Suginaka will be specially visiting from Japan to host maki-e lacquer art workshops; and Iku Nishikawa will be leading a series of kintsugi workshops. Find out more https://www.pantechnicon.com/journal/kintsugi-month
