Encouraged by both Henry Moore and Reg Butler, Ken Smith's has chosen his own, highly personal path and has defined himself as one of the most singular and unique voices working in the UK. Like many artists who came of age in the post-war period, Ken Smith was driven by a deep inner need to make things, to hunker down in the material world and for there to be some material outcome from that process. This major exhibition at Messum’s combines the sculptor’s recent work together with key pieces dating back to the 1970s.
