About

Berwick Visual Arts artist in residence Katie Davies has spent the past six months filming hundreds of personal stories of participants involved in the Common Ridings, all along the border of England and Scotland. An ancient tradition designed to preserve boundaries; the Riding of the Bounds takes on new significance in the lead up to the referendum. Co-commissioned and presented in partnership with Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival Previous work by Katie Davies also presented as part of this exhibition: The Separation Line - a real-time witness account, compiling the many repatriation ceremonies in Wootton Bassett, UK, each of which paid respect to dead soldiers, and collectively through repetitive process observed how state borders are inscribed. 38th Parallel - two border guards patrol the border of the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea, facing each other in a stalemate situation sealed by a cease-fire agreement 61 years ago.
