Pussy is a sound recording by American experimental novelist, punk poet, essayist, postmodernist and sex-positive feminist, Kathy Acker (1947-1997).

About

Acker uses her own singular language to explore how ideas are understood, testing how established notions of love, sex, femininity and masculinity can be broken down through style, syntax and imagination. Acker's frequently employed techniques such as pastiche, plagiarism and Burroughs-esque cut-ups to create sophisticated critiques of linguistic norms and their wider implications. Having provoked strong responses both in the positive and negative from feminist critics and the literary mainstream, the experimental sound recordings audible in Pussy reflect Acker's sophisticated, controlled and purposeful approach to writing. Pussy was recorded in England three years before Acker's death. For further information or images contact Hannah Barton: hannahjane@spacestudios.org.uk
