Plants burst forth: the humming colours and sculptural interventions of Bright’s recent paintings, ceramics and bronzes are an antidote to the cold months ahead. Deadhead will be on show at Van Gogh House throughout the coming winter.
About
Van Gogh House, at 87 Hackford Road, is excited to host recent works in painting and sculpture by the artist Kate Bright.
There is communication with the past: a foundation in the pagan tradition of collecting flora to bring light and good fortune during the dull winters, references to our famous resident and the residue of 1960s décor so prominent before the restoration of no.87; yet this isn’t merely a nostalgia trip. Works question systems, categorization and the boundaries placed upon the world around us.
Bright studied at Camberwell School of Art and Goldsmiths and is currently Associate Professor at the Slade School of Fine Art UCL.
