Inspired by an interest in natural history and the work of both the biologist and the landscape historian, Karen Purple engages with the formation of a landscape and the organic materials within it. Her work derives from a daily connection to the countryside by walking, collecting natural substances and objects, creating a personal journal of remembered responses and experiences that go on to inform her paintings. Karen was selected to take part in an artists' residencey in July 2009 at The Arboretum, part of the University of Oxford's botanical gardens. This exhibition includes work made during her time there.
