Kader Attia’s first UK survey exhibition traces several strands of the artist’s playful and thought-provoking work from the past two decades.
About
Dramatic and compelling, the exhibition questions our ideas about wholeness and injury, authenticity and repair, belonging and otherness.
Using a wide range of media, Attia explores the ways in which Western colonialism has shaped not only how we see other cultures, but also how identities are constrained in our own societies.
According to the artist, ‘our world today cannot be understood without taking into account the psychological and emotional aspects of society’.
At the heart of the show, a key group of works engage with ideas of repair as both a physical and symbolic act, relating to individual as well as social trauma.
