Kabir Hussain will present new bronze sculpture based on the myth of Persephone.

About

According to mythology, Hades, god of the Underworld, fell in love with beautiful Persephone when he saw her picking flowers one day in a meadow. The god then carried her off in his chariot to live with him in the dark Underworld. Kabir's central motif will be the pomegranate,Pomegranates represent fertility, but also a pause in fertility—in myth and in life.  In ancient Greece, Dioscorides recommended pomegranate seeds and rind as birth control. The heavenly paradise of the Koran describes four gardens with shade, springs, and fruits—including the pomegranate. Legend holds that each pomegranate contains one seed that has come down from paradise. Pomegranates have had a special role as a fertility symbol in weddings among the Bedouins of the Middle East and in Christianity pomegranate seeds are said to number 613—one for each of the Bible's 613 commandments. The pomegranate was revered for the beauty of its shrub, flowers, and fruit—symbolising sanctity, fertility, and abundance. The Pomegranate is an emblem both for the Church and for Mary.
There are several masterpiece paintings with the Madonna and Child holding a Pomegranate. The most famous by Botticelli.
