About
Novas Arts presents Just Desserts, a thought-provoking exhibition to coincide with 'Fair Trade Fortnight', at the Contemporary Urban Centre - London Bridge Bankside. This exhibition will consider the poignant issue of 'fair trade' in contemporary society.
This will be a mixed media group exhibition, with photography and painting. The important roles of gender, labour and empowerment in Fair trade are addressed through visually arresting pieces. To coincide with this exhibition we shall also make available a number of Fair trade products, from food to fashion, within our store.
Fair trade has improved the lives of millions of people - farmers, workers and their families - in developing countries.
This exhibition aims to continue our commitment to promoting Fair trade through cultural practice. By raising awareness of these issues, we provide a platform for dialogue, questioning the relation of ethics and economic exchange.
Just Desserts will raise awareness about socially and economically excluded groups; it aims to create an understanding of the effect trade has on other societies and individuals, while educating and informing through a consideration of the history of products and their consumption. In short, it will inspire personal reflection about the impact of individual agency upon global trade.
