Vanishing home. The place where one grew up and lived for most of his/her life. When parents move out, the abandoned flat is ready to be sold.

About

Nothing is left there, just blank walls full of memories. In this photographic series, Juraj Starovecký returned to his former home for the last time and, with the assistance of large-format projections of family slides, he ‘implemented’ his own memories. In the empty rooms, the personal emotions of one family’s history materialised once again. All the while Starovecký contemplated what the notion of ‘home’ really means, what bond is created with such a place and what could hold it on a single point in space.
Juraj Starovecký (* 1985), graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, at the Creative Photography Studio led by Miro Švolík. He has participated in exhibitions all over Europe and in 2014 completed a study internship at the Fachhochschule Bielefeld in Germany from which he acquired a remarkable publication entitled Guten Tag. With ease and visual humor, this photography book reflects the look and feel of contemporary Germany. In his other projects, he has focused on the themes of memory and the relationship between man and nature. He lives and works in Bratislava. www.starovecky.com
