About
Just after London-based illustrator Junior Adesanya launches his first lifestyle goods collection, an unorthodox extension of his growing body of East Asian inspired illustration pieces, he is now holding his first solo exhibition at 5th Base gallery in the heart of East London.
The body of work included in the show is a direct response to the common questions that riddle the art world, who are you and what is art to you? Junior has taken the influences and experiences that he holds in high regard and placed them in a context that they can be understood, Junior believes that most feelings lose potency over time and this is a concept he intends to explore and uphold with his work through pursuing the desexualising of explicit imagery within the art world.
“I'd say in short my work embodies a mixture of my influences regarding childhood visuals; anime, games, Japanese design, interior design, and the idea of nudity and sexuality not being a "taboo" subject in art that is brushed under the carpet.”
This was the reasoning for creating lifestyle products within his body of work. Exposing these so called inappropriate images on everyday items in the hopes that people become desensitised to the negative connotations that often come with these images.
The exhibition will launch providing free drinks and a live DJ on Tuesday the 22nd of September 2015 and run trough till Thursday the 24th of September.
