About

Julija Pociūtė. Limits of Growth

In the exhibition “Limits of Growth” will be shown photography’s, sculptures and videos created previously by artist. This time Julija Pociūtė is regrouping her artworks in space, she is joining different materials and creating new narrative dealing with question of human‘s impact on environment.
Those relations between artworks purifies a sense of temporality, but at the same time – constant efforts of trying to diminish it are felt. For example, she is taking photos of the cross formed greenery in the cemetery – artist is questioning the meaning of a cross, she opposes natural flow of nature to human urge to control it in order to create a symbol.
Even the name of exhibition keeps in itself inevitable opposition between natural processes of the nature and human effort to master them for own sake.
In the exhibition reality is viewed in various aspects, with the help of different materials, points of view, trying to keep the tension between opposites. At the same time perceiving it all as natural and unavoidable process of constant and invincible transformation of time and space in each moment and each detail.

Julija Pociūtė is a contemporary artist, mostly working in the fields of installation and contemporary media. In her creative practices she is combining photography, glass art, and various objects that are reflecting or emitting light and video installations. Artist is exploring relations between materiality and it‘s intangible expressions. She has had 11 solo shows and takes part at numerous group exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad. Her artworks are in the collections of museums in Denmark and Spain.
