Julian Bray combines Welbeck’s architecture and autochromes to create paintings which mingle the real and the imaginary.
About
Local artist Julian Bray takes inspiration from the surrounding architecture on the historic estate and the rare stereoscopic autochromes of the Edwardian gardens at Welbeck.
Julian’s paintings convey the romance of these 100 year old photographs and combine floral imagery with architectural structures, mingling the real and the imaginary. Using mixed media techniques Julian encapsulates a range of effects: resulting in an exploration of contrasting opacity and transparent imagery.
See ‘Gardens for the Duchess‘ for more information on the autochromes exhibition.
