"This exhibition is a tribute to the traditions of printmaking. The black ink has been the basic color of graphic arts throughout the centuries. A black line or surface creates a printed image that has a mystical velvety feeling. Black is the opposite of white, which together create an image in printmaking on paper. Black color is mystical in that it does not reflect light but absorbs almost all light into itself. It is the color of opposites, which is associated with elegance, scholarship, but also with sadness and death.

My pictures are everyday aesthetics. Diary notes of perception. In making art, the destination of the journey is not the destination, but the journey traveled. The destination is the end result of what was experienced during the process. It is a process during which insights and experiences are the link of being human.

I process my images using a method called photopolymer gravure exposure of graphic arts/ printmaking. This technique combines the tradition of printmaking with contemporary graphic arts. There are many work steps in the technique: editing the image with an image processing program, printing the film to be exposed, manufacturing a plate, exposing the plate and printing the image by hand. The grainy and soft imprint of the method is reminiscent of the aquatint technique and creates rich tones – from soft light to deep velvety darkness."

"Diese Ausstellung ist eine Ehrung der Tradition der Grafikkunst. Die schwarze Tinte ist seit Jahrzehnten die Grundfarbe der Grafikkunst. Eine schwarze Linie oder Oberfläche erschafft ein Druckbild, das ein mystisches, samtiges Gefühl hat. Schwarz ist das Gegenteil von weiß und zusammen kreieren sie in der Grafikkunst ein Bild auf Papier. Die schwarze Farbe ist mystisch, da sie Licht nicht reflektiert, sondern fast alles Licht in sich aufnimmt. Es ist die Farbe der Gegensätze, die mit Eleganz, Gelehrsamkeit, aber auch mit Traurigkeit und Tod assoziiert wird. 

Meine Bilder haben die Ästhetik des Alltags. Tagebucheinträge der Wahrnehmung. In der Kunst ist das Ziel der Reise nicht das Ziel, sondern die unternommene Reise. Das Ziel ist das Endresultat davon, was in dem Prozess erfahren wurde. Es ist ein Prozess, in dem Einblicke und Erfahrungen das Bindeglied des Menschseins sind.

Ich verarbeite meine Bilder mit einer Methode namens Photopolymer-Tiefdruckbelichtung der Grafikkunst. Diese Technik vereint die Tradition der Grafikkunst mit zeitgenössischen Grafiken. Das Verfahren umfasst viele Arbeitsschritte: Bearbeiten des Bildes mit einem Bildverarbeitungsprogramm, Bedrucken des zu belichtenden Films, Herstellen einer Platte, Belichten der Platte und Drucken des Bildes von Hand. Der körnige und weiche Abdruck dieser Methode erinnert an die Aquatinta-Methode und führt zu satten Farbtönen –  von sanften Hellen bis zu tiefen, samtigen Dunklen."
