AboutDoors Showcase is pleased to announce Consciousness, the solo exhibition of new paintings by Joy Wang.
This exhibition focuses on the aesthetics of a singular cell. For Wang, Consciousness refers to the awareness of being beyond the cellular level, which is intangible and invisible. Thus the cell symbolises the essential form, full of resonances and connections. The work embodies the beauty and the emotional intelligence of a single cell, which in each painting becomes the object of meditation, a reminder of the powerful potentiality of each cell from which we all come into being.
Drawing upon her background in traditional Chinese art and Eastern philosophy, Wang is an accomplished Chinese calligraphy artist from an early age and now works mostly in oils. For this series, she depicts cells that are normally seen only under microscopes into paintings of various scales.
Wang divides her time between Europe, America, and Asia, identifies herself as a GlobalNomad. A trained architect with a multidisciplinary design background, she is also a certified yoga instructor and a therapist. Consciousness is her first solo exhibition in the UK.
