About
This solo exhibition at Banks Mill by resident artist Mandy Kay is a collection of paintings inspired by locations she has visited both abroad and in the UK. Within these natural settings tranquillity is clearly visible, inspiring her to identify the intensity, depth of colour and vibrancy that is depicted within the colour palette portrayed within her work. This may be through a magnificent ultramarine sky and ocean, or a beautiful field of swaying bluebells in the spring time.
Mandy’s painting are inspired by the effects that the natural elements have upon sea and landscape subjects, which change so readily; one moment blue, the next green or from orange to red to encapsulate imagination and reality. Mandy comments: “In my work I hope to create paintings that are tranquil and calm, inviting the viewer into this evocative world of memory and dreams where you can quietly lose yourself.
“Working in acrylics gives me the freedom to mix the paint directly onto the canvas with spontaneity that creates both movement and stillness.”
Mandy’s exhibition opens on 30 August and runs until 30 September and is open weekdays from 10am-3pm – please ring 01332 597866 to book a viewing time.
You can meet Mandy at her launch evening on Friday, 2 September from 5.30-7pm. Everyone is welcome to come along to view the exhibition and chat to Mandy about her artwork and inspirations – no booking is required.
