Josh Hollingshead is a self-taught artist living and working in Swanage, UK. His work is predominantly figurative with strong narratives that reflect socio-political situations in the places he has visited during his extensive travels.
About
The immense size of several of his works gives one an overwhelming feeling of being taken in upon first contact before being engulfed by colour and visual impact. Whereas the Old Masters used to glaze and varnish their works, creating an almost invisible layer of distance between the work and the viewer, Hollingshead has consciously chosen not to do so to avoid distraction from the actual work and therefore allow the observer to be drawn in from his point of view. The intentional large scale of his works gives one this possibility to ‘walk into the painting’ and become part of this other world.
