About
DAILE GALERIE is pleased to present Jordan Mason’s BLURRED LINES: DIVIDED, an exhibition of paintings responding to the positive and negative perspectives of social interactions amongst our society.
This exhibition is a reflection of how America has changed in the age of social media and how people use it to communicate and express themselves. For over five years Jordan has used hand-gestures and sign language with vibrant color in paintings, as a way of communicating.
Blurred Lines touches on social issues in our modern world, in both a positive and negative light. Many of the words, while short, speak vastly on different major events that correlate to one another. Jordan Mason conveys this mood with the uses of flat, vibrant colors combined with hard black lines, to create a very graphic visual reminiscent of advertisements or propaganda. The colors used translates a meditative mood and are meant to command a certain presence visually.
“When it comes to the pop-modern style, specifically the gestural and sign language pieces, the ultimate goal is simplicity. The focus is to convey powerful messages through very simple, but direct imagery that communicates to all walks of life with meaning, message, and purpose.” -Jordan Mason
Jordan’s painting style is very direct, with a focus on simplicity and a specific combination of colors. The paintings are words and phrases that act as a medium for commentary on the current and past events of the world. The idea of saying a lot without saying much is a recurring theme in his work, and an attempt to create a dialog that evokes conversation and individual perception.
This series of work is a reflection of Jordan Mason’s own perception of what it means to be a melanated individual in America. The works collectively form a dialogue of words and terms that sum up the past 5 years based on personal observations. It is a response to the political and social aspects of society and internet culture. “BLURRED LINES: DIVIDED”, consists of 7 paintings, totaling 24 canvases in the medium of acrylic and ink.
