London-based artist Jon Delgado uses dyes and inks discharged with bleach to create luminescent work inspired by forest landscapes, childhood memories and antique photos.
About
10 Years features a selection of paintings produced by the artist over the past decade alongside brand new work, including small-size sculptures playfully reimagining some of his subjects.
Delgado is concerned essentially with the contemplation and representation of nature, light and the passing of time. He presents these as crystallised moments, where fine details may be fading, but feelings still resonate – dream-like visions of the Essex woods, where the artist grew up, or Epping Forest, where he often goes to observe the seasons change, alongside nostalgic scenes of family life.
The show provides an insight into Delgado’s particular sensibility and ability to manipulate single-colour pigments to achieve the desired intensity and hues, while also welcoming the unpredictable effects caused by applying bleach.
