Waddington Custot is pleased to present iconic paintings and painted objects by the Los Angeles born artist John Wesley in the first solo exhibition of his work in the UK in 8 years.
About
His acrylic paintings combine the vision of Surrealism, in particular its depiction of dreamlike scenarios, with the flat aesthetic of Pop Art. Taking the female nude as his main subject, his visions are both literal and imagined, explicit and cryptic. Typical of Wesley’s work are repeated motifs, such as legs which are lined up one by one. This is set alongside his palette of pastel tones, in particular fleshy pinks which are ribbed with black and put against a pale blue backdrop.
