About

John Vincent's approach to making art is multidisciplinary, encompassing painting, photography, video and sound, with subjects such as his relationship to English/British history, horror films, solitude, society and the uncanny. Fascinated by the theory that the artist Walter Sickert was indeed Jack the Ripper, Vincent created the painting and installation project O Have You Seen The Devle in 2006. With No Hope Of Heaven, the title of this show, is from a hoax letter from someone posing as the infamous murderer. The new set of unsettling paintings and video is the second part of a fictional take on the theory. Examining works by Sickert, the past once again comes to life to disrupt the present by splicing collected information and evidence with modern urban and rural settings showing that the 'Devle' is never far away. www.johnvincent.co.uk
