John Smith is a British artist who has gained international
recognition for his film and video work. With a continuing practice located in the everyday and a playful approach
to narrative and the spoken word, Smith subverts the perceived boundaries between documentary and fiction.
Recently winning the 2013 Jarman Award, Smith has
won major prizes at many international
film festivals. His work is held in numerous collections
including Arts Council England, Tate Gallery and Kunstmuseum Magdeburg.
The exhibition will be a survey of his work and will consist
of a rolling programme each week, from his seminal
early works including âThe Girl Chewing Gum' and âOm'
through to more recent pieces such as âHorizon (Five
Pounds a Belgian)' and âunusual Red cardigan'.
