About
John Rance is an ex-grad from NUA or Norwich School of Art and Design as it was then and works primarily as a sculptor and painter. John has exhibited widely in the U.K and abroad with work currently on show in Lisbon. He is an active member of the Norwich 20 Group showing in all their group shows and independently with other members, he was responsible for the organisation and curation of the Norwich 20 Group exhibition at the Espacio gallery in London. Like all artists there have been ideas and influences on his work by artists he admires but he has striven to create a body of work with a strongly personal recognisable signature. At heart he is a Colourist and has experimented with a variety of materials in making art, welded steel, plastics, bronze casting, wood carving, print making, household paints, etc always dealing with the problems the illusory idea throws up as a practical reality. He uses colour and design to create vibration and movement and likes to use materials against their natural properties as with the folded sculptures giving the impression of folding wood as if it were paper,he has a very open minded approach to his use of materials which should be apparent in his new show at Anteros.
