an exhibition of new work by John Marriott.
About
With Play of Light, conceptual provocateur John Marriott premieres a new series of photographs that feature classical portrait sculpture presented in complete darkness, illuminated only by the blue haze of a cellphone's glow. These stark portraits are both dramatic and haunting, oscillating between the alluring, the sensational, and the banal.
Additionally, Assemblies, installed in the front space, is a collection of objects united and distinguished by subtly differentiated shades of white. Marriott uses the colour of material as well as applied patina to reconsider the concerns and limits of the monochrome, using the surfaces of familiar forms and objects as his canvas.
