John Knight: Origin

About

Origin is an exhibition of 12 large format works on paper specially designed for the gallery space using source material from around London. Based on the natural world, the exhibition is the culmination of over two years work and shows an evolution of the artist's original preoccupation with place shifting from the built environment to nature, albeit a natural world shaped by human activity and intervention. As well as subject matter, the works themselves embody an evolutionary process starting from a local natural original source that the artist has experienced, documented and then explored visually through an iterative process to arrive at the final work, which while rooted to its original form is also an aesthetic object made to both represent its origin and connect to its audience and place.
