About

The line of the horizon has always been a focus point of my paintings. It is the meeting point between sky and land or sea, and a point of ongoing interaction between them. Over the years, my painting has changed and become more abstract. The bands of my more recent paintings relate to ploughed or furrowed fields, and also to the stacked layers in my wife’s weaving. In the same way in which a dot or an extending line can be seen as the opposite to a circle, the opposite of a horizontal line can be the vertical. In these paintings, opposites become complimenting companions.
