In her work, Dumet understands collage as a painterly technique. She paints larger sections of paper rolls flat with gouache or oil paints to later cut out shapes from this raw material. Compared to using a brush, she particularly appreciates the reduced control over the composition of the individual forms in the painting.

The French painter Johanna Dumet can be seen for the first time in an exhibition at KEWENIG's pied-à-terre. Her contemporary take on art historical traditions finds expression here through new collages that unfold into narrative scenes.
