About
Johan Muyle is a sculptor active in the field of contemporary art since 1983. Since 1992 he has devoted himself to his customised Harley Davidsons whose complexity is reflected in his numerous drawings. Almost everything has been changed from the original bikes.
Four custom motorcycles will be shown in the exhibition: a chopper - Sioux in Paradise also titled Now Futur (2016), a bobber - Memento Mori (2010), a Heritage - No More Heroes (2008-2018) and a fatboy - Burnout Machine (2010-2017).
In his performance Sculpture Surfing the artist references moto surfing, which consists of riding the motorbike standing up.
Each of Johan Muyle’s custom motorcycles takes a long time to make, from a year to several years, depending on the bike. Even though the appearance and functionality of the motorcycle are preserved, each element has been subject to modification, or even to unique artisanal realisation.
Sculpture Surfing is as well the title of a new book by Johan Muyle, published by Editions du Caïd, that will be launched on the night of the opening.
