About

The artist Joanne Grüne-Yanoff, born 1966 in Philadelphia (USA), recently moved to Stockholm after an extended residence in Helsinki. The Gallery Kunstkontor tiefimBlut (now Helga Maria Bischoff) has already featured objects by Joanne Grüne-Yanoff in a 2010 group exhibition. In her sculptures, the artist makes use of natural found objects and materials such as wax, moss, feathers and salt, which she then combines with antique lab materials and other hand-made objects. She attaches butterflies to an anatomically copied heart or spine. These elements are often based on symbolic significations, which Grüne-Yanoff lends a new langugage. She mixes the existential, the metaphoric and the scientific and moves freely between these three levels. She sometimes employs „illegible“ words reminiscent of journal entries, emphasizing the poetic narrative of her objects. The exhibition „Okay“ at Gallery Helga Maria Bischoff will be Joanne Grüne-Yanoff's first solo exhibition in Germany. Alongside new objects and works on paper, the artist will show video works for the first time. Joanne Grüne-Yanoff is represented by various galleries in Finland and in the USA. In September 2009, the Liljevalchs Konsthall Stockholm showed the exhibition „Joanne Grüne-Yanoff - Sensitive Objects“, on the occasion of which a catalogue was produced.
