About
With a focus on the early works 'Delay, Delay' (1972) and 'Songdelay' (1973), performance and video pioneer Joan Jonas will explore her relationship to performance and how this translates into the medium of video. The lecture includes a screening of the video work 'Songdelay.' Performing with a cast that included Gordon Matta-Clark, Jonas choreographed a theatre of space, movement and sound in the urban landscape of New York. Songdelay resonates with Jonas' distinctive performance vocabulary and ritual objects, while also highlighting the mediated nature of the recording. The artist's talk will be introduced by Professor Ute Meta Bauer, Dean of School of Fine Art. Joan Jonas is a Leverhulme Trust Visiting Professor for Performance at the RCA School of Fine Art during Spring and Summer Term 2013.
